| Description |
| An exceptional career opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated CAD designer to join a start-up in the area of bio-technology. Pacific Biosciences is seeking the best for developing instrumentation that will revolutionize DNA sequencing. The CAD designer’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Must effectively apply solid modeling 2 and 3D tools, to perform drafting and design tasks.
• Prepares complex mechanical and electrical layouts providing proper component relationships, positioning, clearances and tolerances.
• Prepares complex mechanical or electrical detail and assembly drawings of new or modified designs.
• Develops complete major layouts and engineering drawings of complicated components and assemblies from notes, rough sketches or general instructions from engineers.
• Collects and organizes data and information required by engineers & other technical sources.
• Takes measurements and performs dimensional calculations and analysis.
• Applies special techniques in schematic drawings, isometric, orthographic, perspective projection or other techniques of technical illustration.
• Maintains and recommends Pacific Biosciences drafting standards and ANSI industry standards.
• Stays informed of CAD system design methodology (software and hardware).
• Applies machine shop practices to ensure the most cost effective methods of tooling and machining of appropriate engineering changes.
• Applies standard documentation control procedures for part number creation and version control to manage design and bill of material changes in pre-production environment according to form, fit and function principles.
• Ability to independently perform simple design tasks such as machined part design, bill of material generation and sourcing of mechanical components a plus.
Position Requirements:
• Expertise with solid modeling mechanical design software required; Solidworks experience preferred.
Experience with precision mechanical components and optics preferred
• Knowledge of basic manufacturing processes, design limits and tolerances preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication skills. Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced, technically challenging environment. Relevant product development and / or industry experience required
