CDI Summer and Fall classes

Please note: CDI71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 will not be offered in the Fall..

So if you want CDI71, 72, or 79 please take them in the summer.

Only CDI70 will be offered in the Pro/E series in the FALL 2010 term.

Fall: (CDI83 Revit, DI80 ACAD, CDI60, 61, 62, 67 SolidWorks, etc. will all be offered in the Fall.)

Pro Source is looking for a mid- to sr. level designer on SolidWorks, with PDM works. Agile would be a plus. This candidate will be doing design work and some drawings. Anyone from an automation or semiconductor background with robotics or schematics would be a good fit. This is a contract position.

Rip, Tear, Bend, and Fold – Designing Sheet Metal Parts in SolidWorks

This hands-on session will guide attendees through a comprehensive look at the sheet-metal tools in SolidWorks, and the downstream application of these tools and other methods for the manufacture of sheet-metal parts. The focus is on how each sheet-metal function relates to the eventual manufacture of these parts.

Richard Doyle is User Community Coordinator for SolidWorks, responsible for helping SolidWorks user groups grow and thrive. A SolidWorks user since 1997, Richard has 27 years of experience in the field of mechanical drafting and design, including 20 years working with CAD. As one of the founding members of the SolidWorks User Group Network (SWUGN) committee and former Director of the Central Texas SolidWorks User Group (CTSUG), Richard has spent a good deal of his time helping to keep SolidWorks users informed, educated, and enjoying the benefits of working with 3D CAD.

About Matthew Cummins

Matthew Cummins is Director of Design Technology at B&N Industries in Burlingame, CA. For several years, he has been implementing Solidworks based solutions to create efficiencies in both manufacturing and design environments. At B&N he has been developing systems that allow designers to quickly and accurately “snap together” assemblies of catalog parts. He is often heard saying “Do work once and use it many times!” Matthew has a degree in Materials Science Engineering from Stanford University.

Training is not a one time, one week, get up and running procedure for a company.

It is a continual process involving the commitment of the company and the involvement of the full design and manufacturing departments.

Making available 3-4 mechanisms for learning and keeping up-to-date will insure a well-trained and high quality workforce who will be and stay productive.

Skimp here and you lose in every area of design and manufacturing quality and efficiency gained by introducing a high level 3D CAD system.

CAD managers and systems people should be required to learn the system and get periodic training regardless of their role in the design and documentation process.

Today's most sophisticated 3D CAD tools provide capabilities to convert 2D drawings into 3D models. By converting 2D drawings into 3D models, product development companies can enjoy many benefits including better visualisation of designs, automatic interference checking, ability to create photorealistic images before physical prototypes are available, and easy integration with CAE and CAM applications. Every day, it seems there is increasing pressure on discrete manufacturers to get better products to market, faster and cheaper. Companies of all sizes are trying to squeeze every last ounce of productivity out of their people processes and tools. Yet the challenges designers and engineers face continue to mount. The path from design to manufacturing isn't smooth or direct: it suffers constant dead-ends and reversals. Designs constantly come back, with requests for changes to different parts of the product: the wiring harness, the framework, or some other custom-fabricated component. And while some changes are straightforward, others can have a domino effect that affect the structural integrity of the design and jeopardize the entire schedule. Furthermore, the concerns of designers and engineers vary greatly, covering many diverse areas such as design optimisation, product aesthetics, functional simulation, working with massively complex products that contain mechanical, electrical and even software systems.
