Summary: Responsible for developing designs of products by performing the following duties.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Interact with interdepartmental personnel such as clinical advisors, marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing to create formal product specifications.
Make engineering, manufacturing, and materials decisions based upon input specifications.
Works effectively with peers within development teams to achieve project objectives.
Understands basic anatomy and physiology of the spine and procedures for which products will de designed and developed.
Proactively assembles necessary information.
Understands requirements of project plans and focuses activities on meeting plan objectives.
Develop and maintain bills of materials and Gant charts.
Understands and uses the process of sending documentation through the Change Notice procedure.
Plan and execute design verification testing for new products.
Generate and analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
Continue to enhance engineering skills and knowledge of spine market through training and education.
Perform duties in compliance with applicable regulations and standards such as FDA Quality System Regulation and ISO (International Organization for Standardization).

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.M.E.) or equivalent and three to five years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills: Proficient and accurate with Pro Engineer CAD software, word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), charting, flow-charting, and graphs. Competency in navigating the Internet.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Knowledge of trigonometry, geometric tolerances, and tolerance analysis.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve and interpret problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and/or concrete variables.
